"It wasn't Meningitis!"  On the Eve of a June 3rd Alberta Trial the Stephans make a plea for aid from fellow Canadians

New documents and files obtained by the Stephans last week painted a grim picture of what happened to their son during his final days.

"Zero objective Evidence of an infection. Initial suspected diagnosis was Meningitis but the CT scan ruled it out"

~ Dr. Aoife O'Carroll Pediatric Neurologist / Mar 15 2012

As one of the Key investigators on the Stephan File I ask that you forgive my blunt language as I summarize in the simplest of terms the Stephan case.  It's more disturbing than you might ever imagine in a free and democratic society.  It goes something like this:
  1. Medical records: 18 month old child appears to have ingested toxic levels of potassium.  Swallowing, breathing and Cardiac functions all begin to fail.
  2. Parents call 911
  3. Every step of the child's medical care is fumbled.  Equipment shortages resulted in Ezekiel going over 8 minutes without oxygen.  The child dies
  4. Doctors and medical service providers cover it up by trashing the records in three hospitals and two server sets. They go with the diagnosis the parents suggested it might be, even though the child did not have any actual symptoms of Meningitis.
  5. Doctors send the boy to be chopped up at the medical examiners office where the ME is instructed to find meningitis.  He does this by having his colleague at the lab adjust a few results, but they forget to trash the originals.
  6. Police take advantage of the situation in spite of objections by hospital staff and use the death of a child to take out a human rights activist (the Father).
  7. With the support of the Superior Court of Alberta, the Crown prosecutors office successfully achieves a wrongful conviction.  The Court at this time was under the Direction and Control of Justice J.D. Rooke.
  8. The Supreme Court of Canada overturns the Conviction.  The Crown moves to retry the parents.  The medical examiner flees the country (he also refuses to return to Canada for the next trial).  The lead RCMP investigator takes a quick retirement (the RCMP detachment is also white washed and restaffed).
  9. The activist father exposes what happened in the last trial and Justice J.D. Rooke assigns himself over the Stephan case.  He then systematically shuts down every one of the defence applications, demands to see key evidence before the trial (curiously after which the crown appears to respond to evidence provided only to J.D. Rooke that is sealed), refuses to allow them to subpoena a large number of key witnesses, and refuses to award the Stephans costs from the previously wrongful conviction that they need to hire legal counsel.
  10.  On June 3rd 2019 the trial is scheduled to run where the Crown has indicated that they intend to place pictures of the Stephan's dissected child on a big screen in front of them and require them to argue without the assistance of legal counsel over what took place.  The Stephan's have retained counsel but the Crown is opposing the delay required for him to attend during their trial.  The Crown has now hired numerous witnesses as medical experts who were intimately involved in Ezekiel's care and who have obtained legal counsel in the face of the civil suite that is being filed against them.

Is this the Canada you know?  Let's take a deeper look.
Picture
The Stephans acquired a number of records that were secondary to the primary chart and appear to have been unaffected by the AHS purge of their son's medical records and documents.

For 6 long years the Stephans have fought for an accurate copy of their son's medical records.   For six long years they have been almost entirely disappointed.  To date there has been a wrongful conviction, an appeal and a Supreme Court reversal of the conviction, costing the Stephans over $1,000,000.00, the tax payers even more.  They have had their names destroyed by the main stream media and are now homeless with their 4 children and have spent the last year moving from one place to another.  They have been made to rely on the kindness of other Canadians who are willing to take them in.

April of 2019 was a land mark hearing that showed that at least 176 medical records had either been removed from the Alberta Netcare system along with two recorded RAAPID calls from an Ontario Server set and virtually all charts from their sons stay at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge Alberta.  All of the now undiscoverable records dealt with procedures and their residual effects from a 36 hour period of in hospital care.
Picture
"When Alberta Health Services indicated to the Court that they had provided all the records that now exist, we were devastated".  Their own records reference these other records that we are being told are no longer in the possession of AHS.  Where did they go and why were they removed? The Crown is planning to force us to argue over pictures of our son's dissected body without legal assistance.  They are going to force us to look at pictures of our deceased son without having the medical records to defend ourselves.  The Court knows that the records existed and what we are getting from Justice Rooke is "It's not my problem" "
                                                                                                                         ~ David Stephan

Doctors knew Ezekiel did not have Meningitis and they had successfully treated him for potassium toxicity.

Picture
Doctor Sandy Cunningham from the Cardston Alberta Hospital successfully treated Ezekiel for the high potassium found in the lab results.  Ezekiel's blood pressure quickly normalized and he began to breath on his own within 30 minutes of being treated with Calcium Chloride.

It was after after Ezekiel began breathing on his own that things took a turn for the worse.  Doctors testified that there was worry over Ezekiel possibly pulling out his breathing and NG tubes.  A drug called Roccuronium Bromide was administered and he fell into a deep and prolonged Cardiac Arrest that would result in severe brain damage and ultimately brain death. (Roccuronium is known to cause cardiac arrhythmias and if contraindicated for patients with electrolyte imbalances)
During transport to the Lethbridge Regional Hospital doctors received a report that Ezekiel had a potassium level of 6.4.  This number is concerning because medical staff had already watered down his blood supply with over 500 Ml of Saline before blood was drawn for the test.  a level of 4 is normal, 6.4 is alarming. The estimated level of 10 on arrival, if not treated would have been fatal.  It would have stopped his Heart, lungs and caused paralysis.
Picture
Dr. Sandy Cunningham
Doctors from the Alberta Children's hospital would point the blame squarely at Dr. Sandy Cunningham for lowering Ezekiel's Epinephrine in response to his stabilized blood pressure.  Records would show that after placing Ezekiel into the air ambulance, Alberta Children's Hospital staff would triple the dose of Roccuronium being administered to Ezekiel.
Picture
Notes taken by Dr. Naminder Sandhu. This is a section of the STARS transport log when the blame for the second cardiac arrest was placed on the reduction of Epinephrine ordered by Doctor Sandy Cunningham.

Crown Prosecutors knew about the cause of Ezekiel's  Cardiac Arrest

Of all that took place during the prosecution of the parents of Ezekiel, one thing stands out as the most egregious.  There is clear evidence that Crown Prosecutors knew everything and intentionally avoided exculpatory evidence.  One such example was when Crown Prosecutor Clayton Giles directed Dr. Sandy Cunningham to not speak to the issues surrounding potassium.  In the entire 3500 page volume of trial transcripts from the previous trial, there was only two references to potassium.  The following statement was one.  This clear and intentional avoidance of the obvious medical condition can only be seen as collusion.
Picture
Crown Prosecutor Clayton Giles questioning Dr. Sandy Cunningham and directing him to steer clear of the topic of potassium.
My fellow Canadians, we need your assistance.  The Stephan's have four children who they love and who love them.  After 6 years of dealing with Alberta's broken Judicial system they are in no way naive enough to believe that the Alberta Courts will allow a fair trial or even one that will allow the truth to make it on the record.
We need people to attend this trial, to talk about whats going on in Alberta with their friends and Neighbors and to call your local politicians and demand change.  If Judges like J.D. Rooke and Crown Prosecutors like Britta Kristensen are allowed to continue to push agendas and weaponize our courts against parents and their families, we will all lose.  If this case is successful, it will lead to forced medical fads being forced on our children.  As parents it is our right to act in our children's best interests.

Please assist us by providing funding for medical experts to help us bring the truth to light and keep the Stephan Family together.

A hemolyzed blood sample will have artificially increased potassium. Generally the lab must be re-run to get an accurate Level.

Im a random click through from the US. Best wishes on this nightmare.

It seems to me that the parents of this child have been bullied and blamed for mistakes made by the hospital team.

I agree, This is disgusting. An easily curable condition killed this child because they are foolish enough to think that homeopathic medicine that has ZERO evidence of efficacy (if you do not believe me, look this up in unbiased peer reviewed articles) could solve a deadly infection. If the child was brought in a timely manner, then the administration of medication from the health care workers would not be in question and this family would not be shattered. The victim here is the child, not the negligent parents, they should be ashamed. When weak individuals cannot cope with their own mistakes they will lash out for others to blame, There is no grace in this type of individual. Educate yourselves, read the history of medicine, modern medicine is not to blame, modern medicine is the culmination of generations of great thinkers trying to improve the lives of everyone. The real degenerates here are the ones who pedal unfounded/unproven homeopathic remedies as a solution and the fools who buy into the easily fact checked lies.

Oh seriously you think the medical examiner just "chopped up" this little boy for the hell of it. These parents want to blame everyone but themselves. They do not want to accept their responsibility in this situation. Why was there son allowed to get that ill before seeing a doctor??? How long were they gonna wait for these herbal medicines to work? FACT: Their child was deathly ill with an infection. FACT Their child was not taken to a MEDICAL DOCTOR at the first sign of illness. FACT as this child condition continued to go down hill, the child still wasn't seen in by a medical doctor. FACT THESE PARENTS WITHHELD IMMEDIATE AND PROBABLE LIFE SAVING MEDICAL INTERVENTION FOR THIS CHILD FROM THE BEGINNING. HAD THIS CHILD BEEN ALLOWED TO SEE A MEDICAL DOCTOR more than likely a 10 day to 14 day treatment with antibiotics this child would have more than likely survived. Seems to me that refusing to allow your child to have medical intervention should be against the law. You cant without food or water from a child. So why should you be able to withhold treatment

The writer of this article lost me when he claims the ME was “instructed” to find meningitis. I’ve worked in the MEO system and that’s simply BOGUS! The body tells the story of the death and no pathologist will be instructed or coerced to make something up for a political agenda. If there was no meningitis, there would be no evidence at autopsy and the autopsy report would be accurate. I’m assuming the writer is suggesting the pathologist was bribed or threatened? Caring so little about his job and reputation that he would follow some contrived threat? Where is the writer’s evidence of this? An expert from the MEO will likely stand in place of the pathologist who doesn’t live here anymore. This person has moved away and now has a job elsewhere. This is not the only court case that he would be involved in. Every grieving family who aren’t in the media spotlight wants the ME at their disposal. Can you imagine someone trying to move but being flown back to Alberta for every autopsy they did which is in the courts? And appeals? That’s a ridiculous expectation.

Another ME can unquestionably get on the stand and speak for the autopsy findings. I’m sure that’s what this family is being offered. These witnesses are specialists with Extreme training in forensic pathology. Their focus is the science, not the politics of this case. No, the Stephens’ case and the naturopathic debate is NOT worth their careers. Be real.

This article is what’s WRONG with media. Someone has an agenda and makes unsubstantiated claims like this and people take them at their word. It insults me that the writer would attack the MEO as though these professionals are little more than soldiers in a chain of command who take orders and invent autopsy findings. If you want to claim the justice system is broken, then go ahead. But going into the medical community and coming up with wild conspiracies is rubbish. The child was basically dead long before he reached the first ambulance. He was unresponsive at home. As I recall, he had no pulse in the family car and had been getting CPR in the back of a vehicle by his own parent! The hospitals weren’t the ones who took a well child and botched his care and killed him. He had been pulseless for many minutes before the parents met up with the ambulance. What was required of the doctors was to save a dead toddler whose heart had stopped and was only functioning with CPR. Modern medicine was brought into play AFTER THE BABY DIED! Then everyone expects doctors to perform a miracle. Yes, miracles do occur in medicine, but there was A LOT more working against this baby, including natural medicine limitations and their remote location. Every moment counts and the crucial moments for Ezekiel and medical care were lost in just getting him transported.

I believe people who live in suburbs always know this is a risk in their decision to live in remote areas, correct? This location was more detrimental than ambulance supplies, IMO. Not living in a city near a hospital is not what is on trial, though. So let’s keep getting stuck on little details that each person’s agenda will satisfy. Last I checked, living in remote southern Alberta isn’t a crime. But it IS a risk. In this case, the risk cost a life. There are thousands before him that have the same story and thousands will follow.

Please explain the MULTIPLE medical examiners who have admitted and confided that they are directed NOT to look for certain causes of death...
a personal friend of mine lost her child and the MEs are all REFUSING to run the tests she’s requesting, as it would indict the doctors and vaccine industry.

Another personal friend of mine had to pay thousand$$$ out of pocket to get an ME to run proper testing to investigate her baby’s death. ME discovered it was unequivocally vaccine damage that killed him. But REFUSES to this day to put that finding to paper and make it official because it would cost her her career.

Perhaps you are lucky enough to do your job unobstructed and “follow the evidence” but that ideal is an absolute JOKE here in the US. As the parent of a child whose death was labeled SIDS, I can assure every parent reading this that autopsies are an absolute JOKE. They are only as good as the investigative skill of the examiner, and they don’t check for a damn thing most of the time.
A medical examiner named Joi Fritz has written exposes on her own profession... revealing the bias in autopsies... there is an inherent bias to blame a natural based cause of death rather than an idiopathic one. It’s never a doctor’s fault. It’s never the fault of allopathic treatment. And yet, even with this suffocating and restrictive bias, medical error is still found to be the third leading cause of death in the US.

So honestly, YOU lost your credibility to anyone reading this who has experienced the medical examining procedures for a loved one... because we all know damn well what a corrupt, political, and disgusting process it is. Anyone who says otherwise is either lying or completely ignorant/naive.

So we are talking apples and oranges. If you understood the system completely, you’d know that. Alberta is where this incident occurred. The death was in hospital. This is likely Completely different from your US experiences. In Alberta, autopsies performed at the ME office are done by forensic pathologists. In certain very rural areas in Alberta, as well as our neighbouring province of Saskatchewan, a medical examiner or coroner can be either a town physician (only allowed to do select autopsies) or even a lay person who used to work in law enforcement (with additional training)!! This is also the case in the US. Many (I believe MOST) states are under the coroners system. There, we are comparing apples and grapes. But a medical examiners system (which you attest is your governing system) is still very inferior in the US. I don’t doubt that a physician or a state coroner could be unreliable and biased. They don’t require the 12 years of school a forensic pathologist has under his/her belt in Alberta. Their bias could be to a criminal investigation (if their qualifications were in law enforcement) or there could be a simple lack of specified training if the individual is a medical doctor, so they might protect their own. I can buy that.

However, you are not properly educated or aware of the situation and credentials in Alberta or you wouldn’t claim a comparison between the US and Alberta. So your accusations are uneducated and I stand firmly behind a system in Alberta which is MUCH superior to yours, guaranteed. My mother is American and, as such, I am able to bypass some of the red tape to move to the US, if I choose. One thing I’ve often said is that I’d rather LIVE in the warm temps of the United States, but I wouldn’t want to DIE there! That being said, I wouldn’t want to die in Saskatchewan either! You could do some self-education on the two systems (coroner and medical examiner) and then look up the education requirements to be a forensic pathologist.

Saying all that, I must also tell you that your comments do make you sound like a conspiracist much more than an educated or informed individual. For your interest, I can tell you, for example, that a baby could be murdered by “soft smothering”(a pillow for example) or die of SIDS and there would be NO DIFFERENCE at autopsy. It is a common saying in forensics that ‘the only difference between a soft smothered/murdered baby and SIDS is a confession’.

I again hope you can be open to the difficulties of grieving loved ones making demands on a very overwhelmed system in order to prove their conspiracies. If you want to hang your hat on a vaccine causing a baby’s death, you might have to accept that the investigations required of every anti-vacc activist is an unrealistic demand. It is completely fair to choose to hire a private company to do another autopsy. It’s also fair to have to pay for that if someone is looking to prove a conspiracy. I’d be convinced if I saw the second autopsy or lab report or the scientific findings and how vaccine caused the death. Was it an allergy? Was the baby sick or immune compromised at vaccine? What was the clear evidence of the vaccine cause? What was it that killed that one baby but is harmless to all other babies? Was the second ME (a physician by training) not charged against his oath to “do no harm”? If they didn’t charge him with breaking his oath to simply protect his job, I question the integrity of the parents. Are you sure they’re not making their own interpretation? I’d be willing to fight in court for them if an ME found factual science to link vaccine to a death but admit that his job required him to lie.

Clearly, you are a naturopath and medically trained, as you’ve stated that two infant deaths you know of we’re caused by vaccines as a FACT, not an unsubstantiated conspiracy. That the MEO is a joke system employed as back scratchers to medical doctors in western medicine. Use the naturopathic doctors in your corner and put the chemistry together to identify the killer. We’d all be better off for it. But the baby who died in Alberta of measles last month also has grieving parents who wanted their child protected from that awful death too (newborn contracted measles from hospital and died because an unvaccinated child was in hospital with measles). If the anti-vax folks could be a watchdog or solution rather than Internet warriors, we would be better off as loving and concerned parents. It’s got to get better than the prophet of the autism-vaccine conspiracy, because he’s admitted to being a hoax.

Very last of all, my heart breaks for any and all parents who have buried their infants. I myself have buried mine and the world will never be the same when a parent loses their baby. I weep and pray for you all.

Vaccines do not cause deaths or autism. The very few deaths historically are result of reaction to medication which can happen with anything in our world, its tragic yes but life is full of tragedy. Dont blame vaccines or a corrupt medical system.

It's funny that people that claim vaccines are dangerous never actually provide any unbiased peer reviewed articles or studies that they are citing.
When did you get your medical degree? Do you understand the science behind autopsies? Did you perform one yourself? then how exactly can you say unequivocally the vaccine was the COD.

IF YOU WANT ANY CREDIBILITY SHOW US YOUR FACTS.oh... there are none. hmmm. Go take a long hard look in the mirror. Don't even bother responding unless it is to post a legitimate peer reviewed citation of your "facts". We live in a disgusting world of alternative truths and morons who nurture this thinking are humanity's greatest failure.

Autopsy corruption? give me a damn break. WHY? cui bono (who benefits)? there is no need for corruption as there is no reason to be corrupt. Mistakes can be made yes! but corruption? you are paranoid, this is a job where no is benefiting from corrupt actions so your statement is beyond absurd.

I will do anything for my child's health and safety, and thinking that you are so self important that the medical system is out get you is comically self centered. I am sorry for your loss but you are placing blame in the wrong areas and innocent children are suffering because of some parents misinterpretation of reality and facts.

Shauna- no baby died in Alberta of measles. I checked because it was such a ridiculous claim that would be bloody front page news. It didn't happen, but everyone *always* knows of one.
Cullen- I strongly urge you to read two things. The peer reviewed studies that prove vaccines DO cause autism, but ESPECIALLY read the studies that exonerate vaccines for autism. Have you read them? The actual studies? Not just the headlines? None of them say what they claim to say. None of them have a valid methodology. You clearly haven't done your own research, because I could prove the sun doesn't cause sunburns if I used the kind of methodology these scientists use, and if you read their honest studies, they don't pretend to conclude what propaganda tries to conclude.

My daughter has vaccine induced epilepsy. Epilepsy is one of those side effects of vaccines that no doctor denies, because a seizure is a pretty tough thing to hide. But even then, I see a lot of friction. If they could hide that vaccines cause epilepsy, they would. They can't, so they don't, but they would if they could. So...yeah, do your own research. Draw your own conclusions.

Not sure what kind of world you live in my dear, but if the hospital did something negligent, they will cover it up. This is common knowledge. A friend of mine lost her baby at birth due to negligence of the hospital. When in court, it was pointed out how certain sections of the monitor strip had been cut out. It's people like you, with blinders on, who make it easy for hospitals to keep messing up & covering it up.

To quote the article: "If this case is successful, it will lead to forced medical fads being forced on our children. As parents it is our right to act in our children's best interests." So ironic. This family who had a dying child thought that their imaginary treatment was the best direction for him, and want people to give them money to find quacks who will support them. These parents should own up to their mistake so that their other children and other families they are misleading will be safe from quackery that leads to dead children. How many children have to die unnecessarily because of the medical fad that this family is embracing as truth? This is a shameful promotion of a type of an ineffective treatment/pseudomedicine that this family would monetarily benefit from, as they try to sell their lunacy to other families. How many children have to unnecessary die?

The medical records show that a CT of the brain was done which in NO way rules out meningitis. A spinal tap is a must to rule that out and there wasn’t one done because he was very sick and unstable. A potassium of 6.4 in a slightly hemolyzed specimen is essentially normal. It would NOT cause an arrhythmia. Who interpreted these notes/results? so bogus it makes me sick.

Cullen, I was trying to give the writer some benefit of the doubt even though the conspiracies were flowing like water from a tap! I am COMPLETELY agreed with you. But I live in Alberta and worked at the medical examiners office for years. So I can only speak of what I know. I can’t believe that anyone doing an autopsy would be coerced, biased or irrelevant as the writer states. It flies in the face of the public service. It flies in the face of becoming a super-specialist. But, there is an anger and denial part of the grieving process and sometimes affixing blame (warranted or ridiculous) helps parents find peace and gives them strength to move forward.

Natural medicine seems to require a disgust for, and belief in ‘conspiratory’ western medicine. Conspiracy helps sell their products? I happen to be trained in medicine and believe in it wholeheartedly (including vaccinations) but can see some relevance to trying natural remedies. They seem to have had some success for patients. I don’t have to view it as an “all or nothing” situation. I don’t have to believe all naturopathic scientists are quacks just looking to get rich off voodoo medicine. Sadly, naturopaths can’t find a similar balance. That makes me a little suspicious of the indoctrination. I believe the peer reviews are part of their eye roll for legitimizing actual science. No one is going to get on here and disprove or prove vaccines causing deaths. You’re right about this being theoretical for these parents.

For the record, what I believe could be a fair court case (worth the millions ezekiel’s tragic death has already cost us Alberta tax payers), is vax and anti-vax. This is at the heart of the trial for little Ezekiel. But I don’t know that it’s fair to put natural medicine and anti-vax on trial through this family. I do believe they’ve suffered enough and got caught up in using social media and mainstream media for the bigger issues. It all needs to stop and the two groups need to find another way to fight this out.

This makes me sick! As a bacterial meningitis survivor in edmonton alberta, this story maddens me everytime I see more on it.
1. A CT scan will not show meningitis. It can show though if the brain was effected by the disease.
2. Sometimes you can have meningitis and still not have it show on testing. However by the tine this child was brought in, he was basically already gone, sadly, and the necessary testing was not a possibility.
3. This family was warned by family members in the medical system on concern of meningitis long before he was unresponsive and they chose homeopathic ways over a dr, based on their personal views of medicine.
4. This child wad not breathing and had water like noises when he would breathe for short times after cpr by parents. Even in their 911 call which theyve highlighted on their page, it states he was not breathing for some time which would have effected the brain by lack of oxygen long before the ambulance came in to play.
5. Meningitis can change rapidly and kill quickly!
6. I feel these parents are looking for someone to blame and its easier to blame the government and medical system, then to assume responsibility for their own actions.
7. Had this child gotten a spinal tap and proper medical attention while he was just lethargic and sick, he could have gotten proper testing and medications to potentially save his life. Not a guarantee, as meningitis can kill quickly even with treatments unfortunatly.

Now these are just my personal oppinions based on all I have read about this case over the years and of my own experiences.
In 2001, there was a first outbreak of bacterial memingitis in Edmonton. Out entire school except me was vaccinated. I was unable to recieve mine due to antibiotics i was on for a bladder infection i believe. Being a new vaccine, they didnt know how it would respond to the antibiotics i was on.
I was thw only onw not vaccinated in our school and ths only one who contracted this horrible disease.
In the beginning we thought I just had a flu. Mine progressed slowly. My dad took me to a dr, they said get rest. Couple days later, still sick. My dad was concerned. He took me to emergency due to the outbreak of meningitis. They did a spinal tap and it came back negative. Told me to go home, get rest.
A day later i was so sick. We thought it was the flu, didn't think much of it. I stayed home, my dad went to work. I slept and puked the mirning away. By mid morning i woke up. I had blisters all over, was unable to use my legs, still vomiting. Very tired. I callled my dad, he immedietly came home and rushed me back to a hospital. I made it just in time before the sepsis from meningitis took over. At this time meningitis was new to Edmonton and everything was trial. They told my dad to prepare for thr worst aa they put me in an induced coma and startrd trial drugs.
Never once did we blame the hospitals or the Drs. Although I was tested, my body was not showing signs of meningitis and these drs are human too! I think many forget that! The stollery saved my life!
My dad saved my life. Even though mt testing wasnt showing until i was sepsis and almost dead, my dad never stopped taking my back to get answers! That is what this family should have done!
I am all for homeopathic remedies, but there is a time and a place to use them and this was not it! Clearly what they were using were not working and help from the hospitals should have been the next step long before this point of calling an ambulance with a non breathing child.
Now I am not saying that had they gotten proper medical treatment it would have saved his life, as it sadly does not always. But it would have given this boy mor of a chance than he had!
By putting their own beliefs before their childs worsening symptoms, my belief is that they have no one to blame but themselves.
Were there mistakes due to not habing the right equipment, yes. I am sure that did not help. But they were trying to save a child who was already basically dead. Sad but true!
Also when i had meningitis, my potassium levels were high as well!
To me it seems this is just another publicity stunt to call out the government and medical field. Guaranteed all the paramedics and drs who lost this child felt extremly sad there wasnt more they could do to help this boy.
If they were taking responsibility and accountability for their own actions, i might feel differently. However, all I have seen is blame at everyone who tried their hardest to save this child.
In alm of my issues I never blamed the hospital. My body did not show meningitis on testing, and that is not the hospital, nurses, or drs fault. Its just the way my body responded until i was full sepsis and consumed with this horrible disease. I guess i am just thankful my dad and family never stopped paying attention and doing all they could to make sure i was safe and getting the best care possible!
Stollery saved my life! I am forever grateful to all the staff!

What is frustrating is the fact that homeopathy medicine is allowed to make billions of dollars per year from people. There there are so called doctors selling this stuff and false information and studies. This family paid a heavy price for their belief.

I do not think it’s fair they were charged for there sons death belief in a system that allows homeopathy medicine to be unregulated amd with more and more evidence out there that it’s snake oil.

This whole trial is rediculous!!! Biased people destroying a family!!!
Real criminals get away with the crime, while innocent people, loving their children, doing what they think is best for the child; (Definitely not wanting to harm the child), are harassed and accused for the death of their child. Do the bureaucrats not realize how devasting it is to lose a child for any reason. The 'authorities' didn't even give them the decency to be able to grieve the loss of their child, by heaping guilt and blame on them for killing thier child, along with a slanderous publicity. Where is decency dissappeared to. PLEASE.......give it a rest, and leave these people alone so they can get some sort of normalcy back in their lives.

I find it a tad alarming that this family is continually dragging the death of their son out over years. Be it their fault (which I believe it is-total negligence on their part) or the systems fault, let the poor kid Rest In Peace.

The small excerpts that are provided from the medical documentation are just that- small excerpts. It’s like interpreting the entire bible from a sentence from one chapter, from one verse, out of one book. It’s not doable.
These parents need to accept their part in Ezekiel’s death to heal. It’s not until they do that they will be able to move forward. Even in the event that all charges are dropped (which is highly unlikely) they need to recognize and take responsibility and be able to forgive themselves to move on.

With that said, I have, like many, been following this since day one. I also work in the medical profession. I can assure you that parts of medical records absolutely do NOT go missing conveniently. It is quite the opposite. I agree with what was said by the others. A hemolysis blood sample will cause an elevated potassium level- 6.4 is not actually an alarming number and I would be surprised if that number caused life threatening arrhythmias... regardless, it was my understanding that the boy was already in cardiac arrest when he was brought in.
The comments about the epic are bizarre to me. Clearly the father has not made any effort to familiarize himself with the practice of emergency medicine.. it may have been the only thing keeping his heart going at that time.. again, with only small excerpts from the documentation it’s so hard to tell.
I believe that none of this would have happened if the parents had listened to the original advice that they had been given to go see a dr and get the boy actual medical help. To the parents- what’s done is done- for the sake of your other children, please accept what has happened with whatever repercussions may come. It teaches them that all actions have consequences that you need to accept...
It’s devastating that you lost a child. I don’t believe that anyone is arguing that. But life needs to carry on for your family- in whichever way the law decides. There is no conspiracy. You are not that important. Errors happen in the medical system and they are typically owned up to. There is no alterior motive here- again, you are not that important. Your situation was simply tragic. You made an error in judgement. Own that. This needs to be resolved for you, your wife, and your remaining children.
